The latest iteration of Hébrart's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is lovely, bursting with aromas of Meyer lemon, green apple, brioche and subtle hints of blanched almond. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seductive, with ripe acids, a youthfully frothy but incipiently fine mousse and a sapid, vinous finish that belies this bottling's easy charm.
Champagne Marc Hébrart has been producing estate bottled Champagnes since 1964 and were invited to join the Club Trésors, an exclusive group of top Family Estate Champagne Houses, in 1985. Jean-Paul Hébrart, who took over the estate from his father in 1997, is the current winemaker and owner. Jean-Paul is married to Isabelle Diebolt of the Diebolt-Vallois Champagne House in Cramant. While they live in Mareuil, they each work at their respective family properties, with little to no overlap. "We function completely separately, each with our own estates," says Isabelle. Jean-Paul owns 78 parcels over 10 different villages including the Grand Crus of Aÿ, Avize, Chouilly, Oiry and Louvois as well as the Premier Crus of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay val d’Or, Bisseuil, Dizy and Hautvillers. “Hébrart is one of the very finest producers in Champagne” – Peter Liem (aka the Champagne guru’s guru).
