Fontinette is 100% Pinot Meunier from a single one hectare parcel of 50 year old vines, based on the 2014 vintage. The Champagne is wildly expressive on the nose, with wild herbs & ginger making an appearance. On the palate this is especially refined, with silky persistent bubbles and a lengthy finish.
The Nowack family has been growing in Vandiéres since the late 18th century. It was only recently, that Flavien, one of our favorite of Champagne’s young turks, was granted a small portion of the estate (three hectares) to make wines “his” way. A rising star in the Western Marne Valley, Flavien is on a personal mission to find themes, which unite soil with varietal. Each parcel is a unique expression of the Valley’s mix of sanded clay, marlstone and limestone. Flavien’s passion to explore this rich geological diversity and to intervene as little as possible allows for the most transparent expression of terroir. Very low yields and aging in old barrels produce rich but taught wines that deliver incredible varietal character. You’re one of the first in the US to taste the wines from what will become a rock star estate.
