For this cuvée, Vignier selects a lieu-dit (parcel) each year from her Cramant holdings that she feels best expresses the terroir and the vintage for Cramant Chardonnay. The selected site for the 2016 vintage was the lieu-dit "Les Fourches," located in the south of the village near the famed "Bateau", on clayey marl soils with pure chalk subsoils.
Vignier's holdings are in the Grand Cru villages or Cramant, Chouilly and Oiry, as well as some parcels in the Côte de Sézanne. Nathalie Vignier returned was called home to take over the estate by her father, Jean. Nathalie’s father told her that there were “hidden treasures” in the Vignier-LeBrun holdings and when she returned to the family domaine she was determined to identify those unique parcels in the larger whole. This Champagne is an expression of one of those treasured parcels. She is slowly aligning the estate to her philosophy: higher ripeness, a return to oak in the cellar and no use of herbicides or pesticides. The Vignier family motto is "La bonté de esprit et la grandeur de courage," which means "the goodness in spirit, and the courage to greatness." There is a lot to look forward to from Nathalie in the future.
